Q: Is an infomercial marketing campaign the right type of campaign for my product?

A: There are obviously variations to every product, but here are some basic criteria.

Broad Appeal
The product must appeal to a large audience of viewers.  Television is a publicized medium, so products with a narrow target market tend to not do well.  Ideally, there should be a wide range of demographics and psychographics that will be interested in purchasing your product.

Products that appeal to the need to look great and/or enhance wealth tend to do well.  Also, any products that will save a consumer substantial time or money and are a solution to a problem will do well.

Visually Demonstratable
Products that are visually demonstratable and easy to use and understand do very well on television. Keep in mind, a consumer can not pick up and hold a product when they buy it through television.  The more a product can be visually demonstrated the better.

Adequate Profit Margins
The media expense produces a large cost per sale in an infomercial campaign.  So, there needs to be adequate margins to make a campaign practical.  By and large, there should be a minimum of a three to five times markup from the selling price to the actual cost of goods.  The wider the margin, the more profitable a campaign will be.
